I don’t know about you but I love to travel and go on adventures even if it is a simple one-day road trip. But let’s face it, the cost of staying in hotels has gone through the roof. You pay $300 plus to stay in a room you can’t check into until 4 pm and the check out time is before half of the retirees even wake up! No offense meant!
My family and I decided to check out Airbnb https://www.airbnb.com, a site where homeowners rent their homes out to others. I looked up cabins in Big Bear, CA and found a little two bedroom cabin that allowed dogs…and grandkids. Sometimes the latter can be more destructive than the dogs! The price? $107 a night! It was a mere ten minutes to a ski lift, the town and a grocery store. There was a large front porch where we spent most of our time enjoying the beauty of the pine trees.

When we go to places we love to explore the area. You can find the best little hole-in-the-wall restaurants and some amazing places to just spend time outdoors. We found a cool park that had exercise equipment for adults as well as two playgrounds for the kids. My grandson had his first experience on a slide. The verdict is still out on if he enjoyed it or not!
We took a drive to the other side of the lake and hiked along the Alpine Pedal Path Trail. Most of the trail is paved like a bike path which made it easy for the baby stroller, hence the name Pedal Path Trail. My husband and daughter are big kids and were running off and playing on the fallen trees. I have to smile when I see the playfulness emerge from these two!
Overall our weekend was great. We will definitely use Airbnb in the future. You don’t have to hear your neighbors fighting, people running up and down halls and you have an actual area where you can cook, play outdoors and just plain relax. So next time you are looking for a getaway, check out Airbnb and choose your next adventure!
